Reading comprehension is the process of simultaneously extracting and constructing meaning through interaction and involvement with written language (Snow, 2002). It is an active, constructive, meaning-making process (Kintsch, 2018; Singer & Alexander, 2017) in which the reader, the text, the activity and the sociocultural context all play central roles. These four aspects are all inter-related and changes in any one of them affect the meaning the reader constructs (Snow, 2002).
