Manchester United: Amorim’s Tactical Overhaul Takes Shape

By Simon Awuriki

Under the new management of Ruben Amorim, Manchester United is undergoing a significant tactical overhaul, with a clear focus on strengthening the attack and reshaping the midfield. The early stages of this vision are already evident with key acquisitions.

United has made substantial investments in their attacking line, bringing in Matheus Cunha from Wolverhampton Wanderers for £62.5 million and Bryan Mbeumo. These signings signal Amorim’s intent to revamp the team’s offensive capabilities.

The primary target for the striker position remains Benjamin Sesko from RB Leipzig. However, the pursuit is highly competitive, with Newcastle United also having submitted an offer, though it reportedly falls short of Leipzig’s asking price. This ongoing “Sesko confusion” is reportedly influencing other potential market movements, highlighting his importance in the current striker market.

In midfield, Christian Eriksen has departed on a free transfer, and Casemiro’s future remains uncertain. Manchester United is actively seeking a new midfielder, but with a specific profile: “less holding defensive midfielder, still defensive but with more intensity”.

This strategic shift from a traditional holding midfielder like Joao Palhinha (who is now reportedly heading to Tottenham) indicates Amorim’s desire for a more dynamic and progressive partner for Bruno Fernandes, allowing the captain to thrive in a more advanced role.

The club’s targeted recruitment directly aligns with Amorim’s system, aiming to transform the team’s playing style for the upcoming season.
